Homestead Exclusion

The Taxpayer Relief Act, Act 1 of Special Session 1 of 2006, was signed into law by Governor Rendell on June 27, 2006.   The Homestead Exclusion is only applied to a primary residence.  The deduction is taken off of the school real estate tax bill received in July.  You are not guaranteed a homestead exclusion unless sufficient funds have been collected to permit property tax reduction allocations to be made by the Commonwealth of PA.  The act also allows for the option to pay these taxes in installment payments but, this decision must by made by July 31 each year.

You must file the Homestead/Farmstead Application in order to receive property tax relief under the Taxpayer Relief Act of 2006.  For more information and applications please contact the Lycoming County Assessment Office, 48 West Third St., Williamsport, PA  17701 or (570)327-2301.
